President Victor Yushchenko and Hungary’s Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány on Friday attended a ceremony in the Carpathian city of Mukachevo to open an exhibition of paintings by the famous Hungarian painter Mihály Munkácsy, according to the President’s press-office.

Yushchenko characterized Munkácsy, who had been born in Mukachevo, as “one of the proponents of Ukraine’s friendship with Hungary” and thanked all those who had helped organize the exhibition.

He said Ukraine was interested in developing closer ties with Hungary, adding that both countries "have common goals and interests."
