An ostrich died in Kyiv Zoo. Director Oleksiy Tolstoukhov said this to Segodnya newspaper.
“5 years old she-ostrich died. Probably, the reason of the death became some kind of pathology, because a vessel burst in a thoracic cavity of the she-ostrich. We also believe that the she- ostrich died after she-ostrich had fought with congeners”, - said Oleksiy Tolstoukhov. Zoo employees have another version concerning this case.
“The ostrich simply froze to death. The ostrich was in an open-air cage”, - said an employee of the Zoo. Oleksiy Tolstoukhov said that the death can not be caused by cold snap because there is an additional “covered housed with a hay inside”. After the death of the she-ostrich, two she-ostrichs and one ostrich still live in the Zoo.
