Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on Monday pledged to enhance bilateral cooperation with Russia and promote a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, according to Xinhua.
The president made the remarks during a meeting with Russian State Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin.
"We believe that high-level contacts between our countries will always bring positive results and will be a stabilizing factor in our relations," Yanukovych said.
Kiev and Moscow will create an atmosphere of friendship and understanding between the two parliaments, Yanukovych said, urging the legislative bodies to develop high-level dialogues in the future.
Naryshkin, on his first visit to Ukraine, hailed the strengthening of political dialogues between the two countries that would promote bilateral cooperation in all fields.
Naryshkin suggested the two sides enhance cooperation in the economic, humanitarian and political fields.
"We gear up for very active and effective work," Naryshkin said.
Naryshkin arrived in Kiev on Sunday for a two-day working visit.
