Top Deputy Prime Minister, Finance Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov insists that the government’s macroeconomic forecasts for the year 2008 are well-founded.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, he claimed this today, introducing the draft law on the state budget of Ukraine-2008 at a plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the fifth convocation.

M.Azarov denied the accusation of the Presidential Secretariat of understating the GDP forecast for the year 2008. He recalled that by forecasts of international financial organizations, such as IMF, WorldBank, the Ukraine’s GDP forecast is much lower than that of the government.

M.Azarov added that the GDP forecast for the next year was calculated on the basis of international standards.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, aat its session on 19 September, adopted the draft Social Program of the Economic and Social Development of Ukraine for the year 2008. The Program envisions the next year’s GDP growth at no less than 7.2%.
