Ukraine and Russia on Monday signed a protocol amending the intergovernmental agreement on the rent of Nitka naval aviation training facility, the press-service of Ukraine`s Defense Ministry said, according to Xinhua.
"The signing of this document allowed passing on monetary payment for the use of Nitka facility," Ukraine`s Defense Minister Dmytro Salamatin was quoted by the press-service as saying.
The new protocol implies that Russia will pay Ukraine nearly 700,000 U.S. dollars annually for training its pilots on Ukraine`s facility, Salamatin said, adding that under the previous agreement Moscow has been providing Kiev with spare parts for Su-family naval fighter jets as rent for the use of Nitka.
The new protocol will generate new revenues for the Ukrainian national budget, Salamatin said.
Russia uses the post-Soviet Nitka as the only training facility for its carrier pilots.
The two countries signed an intergovernmental agreement on the rent of Nitka in 1997.
