The issue of the Ukraine’s debt to Gazprom for the natural gas, delivered to Ukraine, occurred as a result of statements of oppositional politicians.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, Fuel-Energy Minister of Ukraine Yuri Boyko claimed this to a news conference today.

According to him, until recently, “Gazprom has been calmly watching the situation and was confident that the gas from Ukrainian depositories will be sold and will not disappear anywhere from them”. “When oppositional politicians began to make statements such as – let us follow the principle of Sharikov and Shvonder – to divide and seize everything, naturally, our Russian partner said: esteemed colleagues, let us formalize our relations – either pay us money, or we will cut gas to you”, Yu.Boyko said.

He stressed that this problem was solved on 9 October, in the course of his visit to Moscow: “We merely returned the gas to its owners, considering the difficult political situation”.

Yuri Boyko also noted that the gas reserve at 32 billion cubic meters accumulated in the Ukrainian depositories, as there was a warm winter in Europe last year, and the most part of gas was not consumed.
