Viktor Yanukovych sets a stress on the importance of independent estimation of pollution scale of the Azov and Black Seas as a consequence of the recent storm, according to the government’s press-office.

In the PM’s opinion, an expert group from the European Union including 20 persons is to assist in it which has already started to work. “It is very important for us to have an independent expert estimation in order to avoid talks that we keep back something,” Viktor Yanukovych said.

The Head of Government expressed confidence that nature protection needs immediate response emphasizing at the same time the inadmissibility to postpone rescue works till spring.

“I have heard such proposals that in spring when the water gets warm we’ll take measures. We should not wait for spring. We should timely draw up measures on purification of water areas of the Azov and Black Seas - on the shore and in the sea,” Viktor Yanukovych stated.

According to the Premier, we are considering together with the Russian side an opportunity of using special vessel from Norway able to purify the seabed from black oil. At that the Head of Government stressed that it is necessary to coordinate activities both of Ukraine and Russia in all directions concerning overcoming the consequences of natural disaster on the Black Sea and Azov shore.

Touching upon vessel navigation order in this area, the Prime Minister noted that the current regulations are temporarily. In the future the Government will take the most updating measures – for example, special order of vessel traffic such as Turkey uses in the Bosporus and Dardanelles Straits.

“We must take this experience into consideration and think of improving the system and response to non-fulfillment by the example when there was a warning message for all vessels in the Kerch Strait but not all of them fulfilled it. And have suffered in the result of it. What should be our response to such cases? We should respond firmly and search after more efficient decisions in order to improve the state emergency response and prevention system,” Viktor Yanukovych stressed.
