President raises energy savings issue
“We must build stricter approach towards energy saving...”
President Victor Yushchenko thinks that state energy saving program must be revised.
He said that to media after the all-Ukrainian meeting on energy saving in mining and machine-building industries, according to the President`s press-office.
“The goals of economical resources use stated in 1997 program have very little reference to national interests. They don’t meet the requirements of strengthening competitive environment for national producers either”, - said V. Yushchenko. “We must build stricter approach towards energy saving”, - he added.
Speaking about current plan of energy saving President said that indices present there to be met till 2030 must undoubtedly be revised. Accordingly all regional and branch programs must be revised too. This refers in the first place to such power-consuming industries as metallurgy, chemical industry, machine-building and municipal economy.
President also informed that the meeting resulted in decision to work out in a 7 day period the new target plan for 2008 regarding energy saving. Mainly that document shall focus on the activity of National Agency for Efficient Use of Energy Resources.
Of no less importance according to President is the issue of fiscal motivation towards enterprises where energy saving technologies are actively implemented. V. Yushchenko believes that some taxation reductions for such enterprises are necessary.
