During the year 2008, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be staffed with military men, serving on contract, by 70% of the plan.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, Commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Headquarters chief Serhiy Kyrychenko disclosed this to a press conference today.

“We plan that, at the end of the year 2008, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will include 57 thousand military men, serving on contract, which makes 70% of the whole number of military men, who are planned to serve on contract”, S.Kyrychenko said, adding that presently the Ukrainian army numbers 49 thousand contract servicemen.

He stressed that the Defense Ministry carries out a number of measures to increase the attractiveness of serving on contract. Thus, a big attention is paid to building dwellings, giving an opportunity to get a free higher education, etc..
