A miner who was seriously injured in a November 18 blast at a Ukrainian coal mine has died in hospital, bringing the death toll to 101 people, Ukraine`s emergencies ministry said Friday, according to RIA Novosti.
An explosion at the Zasyadko coalmine in the Donetsk Region, the heart of the country`s coal industry, caused a fire to rage through the mine. A total of 90 people were killed, with 10 miners missing and officially pronounced dead.
"On November 29, a body of a miner was discovered and brought to surface, and another miner, who had been hospitalized with serious injuries, died in hospital," the ministry said in a statement.
A total of 457 miners were underground at the time of the explosion and 357 were brought up alive. At least 40 miners remain hospitalized.
Authorities said faulty equipment and poor safety conditions may have been behind the methane blast at the mine.
