The Government’s well-considered policy will ensure implementation of those plans which reflect aspirations of the majority of Ukrainian people. Such opinion expressed First Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov during his meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Jirzhi Shedevi, according to the government’s press-office.

The sides discussed internal political situation in Ukraine and outlooks of Ukraine’s cooperation with NATO.

In particular, Oleksandr Turchynov stressed that today leaders of the state have a common point of view of further prospects of Ukraine towards the EuroAtlantic integration. “Ukraine’s consistency towards Europe and a stand which the President of Ukraine, Government and the parliamentary majority take is evidence of seriousness of our intentions,” the First Vice Prime Minister assured.

According to Oleksandr Turchynov, Ukraine is “a European country and should be among the European states. From this point of view cooperation with NATO and EuroAtlantic integration is an important element”. The First Vice Prime Minister expressed hope that due to the reforms carried out in Ukraine in the political, economic, military and other spheres a significant potential is created for accepting Ukraine as a democratic and European country.

In his turn, Jirzhi Shedevi noted positive achievements of Ukraine in reformation, in particular, in national security. “As regards reforms conducted in the defense sector, if we compare a situation in other post-Soviet states, they may be considered as successful,” NATO Deputy Secretary General noted.

Jirzhi Shedevi expressed readiness of the Alliance to support Ukraine in conducting reforms which are democratic and transparent.
