The Interior Ministry of Ukraine initiates introducing a series of amendments into the legislation to improve the road traffic safety.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, Ukrainian Traffic Police chief Serhiy Kolomiyets claimed this to a press conference today.

According to him, in line with the amendments, amounts of fines for traffic rules violation are boosted. In particular, an average fine will make around 85-100 hryvnias.

The responsibility for rough violating the traffic regulations is seriously increased. In particular, the fine for driving on the red traffic lights will make 170 hryvnias, for drunk driving – 1360 – 1700 hryvnias, or depriving of right to drive for 1-2 years.

S.Kolomiyets stressed that the Interior Ministry also initiates introducing special devices for photographic fixing violations on the road. One of such devices was shown to journalists at the press conference.

Besides, in line with the information of S.Kolomiyets, the traffic police introduces a mechanism of supervising over systematic violation of traffic regulations by means of accumulating fine points. If a driver accumulates 30 fine points during a year since the date of committing a violation, he may be deprived of his driving license.

Drivers will pay the fines in banks, traffic policemen will only make decision whether to fine a driver.
