Over 17,000 citizens of Ukraine have already applied to Ukrainian diplomatic facilities abroad for assistance under the Zakhyst (Protection) program (for those left stranded outside the country after the closure of the Ukrainian border late in March 2020).

"As many as 17,305 Ukrainian citizens have turned to foreign diplomatic institutions via the Zakhyst system, seeking assistance," Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a statement on Facebook late on April 27.

According to it, 45 Ukrainians have already recovered from the novel coronavirus, or COVID 19, abroad, while 162 are undergoing treatment in 15 countries. Of them, 121 are in Italy now. Seven citizens of Ukraine have died of the coronavirus abroad.

As UNIAN reported earlier, there were 9,009 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus cases, including 220 deaths, in Ukraine as of 09:30 a.m. Kyiv time on April 27.
