The city of Kharkiv has got into the "red zone" as Ukraine authorities completed a weekly review of its recently-introduced quarantine zoning on August 7.

The Kitsmansky district of Chernivtsi region remained in the red zone, while Kharkiv and the Kostopilsky district of Rivne region were added to the red-zone list, the Health Ministry's updated interactive map shows.

The cities of Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv remained in the orange zone.

The town of Lutsk was moved from the red zone to orange.

Moreover, the town of Chernivtsi and the Rivnensky district of Rivne region, the Lutsky and Liubashivsky districts of Volyn region, Horodenkivsky district of Ivano-Frankivsk region, Mykolayivsky, Peremyshlsky, and Pustomytivsky districts of Lviv region have been put into the orange zone.

Background

Depending on the epidemiological situation, all regions in Ukraine are divided into several zones from August 1: green, yellow, orange, and red according to the COVID-19 risk levels.

Green zone rules envisage:

  • Mandated face masks or respirators in public locations;
  • Mass events with no more than one person per five square meters;
  • Movie screenings in theaters with no more than 50% seats sold; and
  • Public transport carrying seated passengers only.

Yellow zone (+ green zone rules) restrictions include:

Visits to care homes for the elderly, except for cases where critical situations require response.

Orange zone (+ yellow zone restrictions) bans cover:

  • Accommodation establishments (hostels, tourist bases, etc.), except hotels;
  • Entertainment facilities, restaurants at night;
  • Scheduled hospitalizations;
  • Gyms, fitness centers, cultural institutions;
  • New shifts in children's camps; and
  • Public events (except those hosting one person per 20 square meters, with overall attendance of under 100).

Red zone (+ orange zone restriction) bans cover:

  • Public transport;
  • Educational institutions; and
  • Shopping malls, cafes, and restaurants.

Regions could be assigned to different zones if changes are observed in one of the defined indicators within five days in a row.
