Ukraine has seen a new record spike in daily COVID-19 cases when the number of new positive coronavirus patients grew by 829 in the past 24 hours.

This brought the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 34,063 as of 09:00 Kyiv time on June 18, according to the interactive map of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).

The largest number of new cases was registered in Lviv region (171), Zakarpattia region (74), and Rivne region (73).

The death toll is 966, including 23 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Some 15,447 patients have recovered, including 504 in the past day.

There are 75,754 suspected COVID-19 cases in Ukraine now, the NSDC said.

On June 17, the Ukrainian government extended the so-called adaptive quarantine until July 31 over a spike in the incidence in the past week. The easing of the coronavirus-related lockdown started on May 22.

The adaptive quarantine means that the respective restrictions will be lifted only in those regions where the epidemic situation allows. In other regions, the quarantine-related measures may be enhanced if the situation worsens.

As UNIAN reported earlier, there were 33,234 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ukraine as of 09:00 Kyiv time on June 17. They included 943 deaths and 14,943 recoveries. Some 758 new cases were recorded in the 24 hours preceding that date.
