Ukraine's Deputy Health Minister, Chief Medical Officer Viktor Liashko has said Ukraine may face the greatest spread of COVID-19 during the epidemic season of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, which takes place from October to May.

"Therefore, we need to take the coronavirus disease more seriously and prepare for the epidemic season of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, in which coronavirus disease will also circulate," he said at a briefing on August 1, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
According to the official, today Ukraine ranks 34th in the world ranking in terms of the ascertainment rate of COVID-19 (8th in Europe), 38th in terms of mortality from coronavirus disease (15th in Europe ), and 86th by the number of cases per 1 million people (37th in Europe).
As UNIAN reported earlier, 1,172 new cases of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 were reported in Ukraine in the past day, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 71,056 as of the morning of August 1.
