Ukraine's Deputy Health Minister, Chief Medical Officer Viktor Liashko has said the ministry predicts about 4,000 deaths from COVID-19.

"When we first presented forecasts a month ago, Ukraine was moving according to the 'yellow-green' scenario. Currently, our dynamics reflects the 'yellow' scenario... and we predict about 4,000 deaths…," he said at a briefing on August 1, an UNIAN correspondent reports.

As UNIAN reported earlier, 1,172 new cases of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 were reported in Ukraine in the past day, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 71,056 as of the morning of August 1. The death toll is 1,709, including 16 fatalities in the past 24 hours. As many as 39,308 patients, including 556 in the past day, have already recovered.
