Health minister: Over 15,500 children, 17,100 healthcare workers contract COVID-19

Ukrainian Health Minister Maksym Stepanov says 15,511 children and 17,109 healthcare workers have contracted the coronavirus (COVID-19) since the start of the epidemic.

"In the past day, 5,397 people tested positive for the coronavirus, including 252 children and 245 healthcare workers. Some 900 new patients were hospitalized. There were 93 deaths and 2,263 recoveries," he said at a briefing on October 8, as reported by the Health Ministry on Facebook.

As many as 108,233 patients have already recovered.

• Ukraine has registered 5,397 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours, the first time the country has exceeded 5,000 cases in a single day since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic.
• The total number of confirmed cases grew to 244,734 as of October 8, 2020.
