Andriy Shevchenko has issued one of the most unusual denials in football - the AC Milan striker is adamant he never kissed the Chelsea badge during his ill-fated spell at Stamford Bridge.

Now back with the Rossoneri where the Ukraine captain had seven successful years before two anonymous seasons with Chelsea, Shevchenko was called `a  traitor` when Milan fans saw him kissing his badge after scoring his first goal for the Blues in the Community Shield against Liverpool.

But Sheva said: `I am not a traitor. I never kissed the Chelsea shirt.`

Shevchenko has failed to repeat his goalscoring feats second time round in Milan and blamed being on the bench so long at Chelsea for this.

The striker has failed to hold down a regular starting place at the San Siro in the early weeks of the season since his return but is confident things will get better.

He said: `I have not played regularly for such a long time. Therefore, it`s not easy to get back on track.

`I just need to keep working hard to improve my physical condition. The important thing is to always be ready when the coach calls upon me.`
