Victor Yushchenko will fly to Hamburg to watch a World Cup quarterfinal match between Ukraine and Italy, said his spokeswoman, Iryna Gerashchenko, at a mass media briefing today, according to the President’s press-office.

“The President believes he should support our guys during this fateful game on behalf of millions of Ukrainian fans and also tell them they have already done much for the country,” she said.

The press secretary said Mr. Yushchenko would be accompanied by two eleven-year-old boys, who are considered to be the most promising players of the Olympic Youth School “Athlete.” They have been dreaming to attend the World Cup championship, she explained. Mrs. Gerashchenko added that the Head of State thought the two young footballers could one day play in the national team, for example, during the 2012 Europe Cup, which Ukraine wants to host.
