Units of the Ukrainian Joint Forces Operation (JFO) did not let Russian-led forces in Donbas, eastern Ukraine, improve their battle positions in the past day.

"The JFO units were actively defending their strongholds, which did not let the enemy improve the tactical position," the JFO press center said on Facebook on May 10 in an update for May 9.

Intense fighting continued along the entire contact line, it said.

The situation near the town of Avdiyivka and the villages of Pisky and Shyrokyne escalated most.

"The JFO forces were conducting intensive military operations in the area of the Avdiyivka industrial zone and the village of Pisky, gave an adequate response and destroyed enemy weapons. According to reconnaissance reports, the enemy lost five people as killed in action and seven as wounded in the Avdiyivka sector alone," the update said.

The Russian occupation troops mounted 20 artillery and mortar attacks on the Ukrainian troops, opened aimed fire at the JFO positions 53 times, using small arms, grenade launchers, cannons of infantry fighting vehicles. In some locations, the enemy resorted to active assault actions.

On May 9, one Ukrainian soldier was killed in action near the village of Krymske. Three Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in action near Avdiyivka and two were wounded near the town of Volnovakha in Donetsk region.

On the morning of May 10, fighting continued in the Donetsk and Mariupol sectors. No Ukrainian casualties have been reported for that period.
