Russian-led forces mounted 45 attacks on Ukrainian troops in Donbas in the past day, using heavy weapons 17 times.

"Over the past 24 hours, the situation remained tense. The fighting intensified after 16:00 and continued in all sectors," the press center of Ukraine's Joint Forces Operation (JFO) said in an update on Facebook as of 07:00 Kyiv time on May 16, 2018.

At about 06:00 on May 15, again ignoring the norms of international humanitarian law, the occupiers opened fire from 82mm mortars at the village of Novhorodske.

Areas near the villages of Troyitske and Novozvanivka were hot spots in the Luhansk sector.

In the Donetsk sector, units of Ukraine's Joint Forces conducted active defensive operations near the villages of Travneve, Zaitseve, Zalizne, Verkhniotoretske, and Pisky.

According to intelligence data, the enemy lost two fighters over the past day, while three others were wounded.

It is reported the invaders received an adequate response near the villages of Talakivka and Shyrokyne in the Mariupol sector.

"During the hostilities, one Ukrainian defender was killed, two others were wounded and promptly hospitalized," the report says.

Since the beginning of Wednesday, May 16, intensity of fighting has decreased. The enemy uses only small arms. No casualties among the Ukrainian military were reported as of 07:00 Kyiv time.
