The Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated 12 troops of the Russian-led forces amid fighting in Donbas, eastern Ukraine, in the past day, 17 enemy troops were wounded.

"Twelve enemy troops were killed, 17 were wounded, namely the 4th motorized rifle brigade of the 2nd Army Corps had eight eliminated, 11 wounded; the 1st motorized rifle brigade of the 1st Army Corps had two eliminated destroyed, four wounded; the 9th separate assault mechanized regiment of the marine infantry had two eliminated, two wounded," the headquarters of the Ukrainian Joint Forces said in an update as of 18:00 Kyiv time on Facebook on August 23.

The 24th separate assault battalion Aidar on the same day posted on Facebook a video showing members of the Russian-led forces collecting and evacuating their killed and wounded troops in four cars (watch from 00:53).

From 07:00 to 18:00 Kyiv time on August 23, the Russian occupation forces violated the ceasefire 12 times. In four instances, they used artillery systems and mortars.

In particular, the Russian-led forces resorted to 122mm artillery systems, 120mm and 82mm mortars, cannons of infantry fighting vehicles, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms to attacks Ukrainian defenders of the villages of Krymske, Novotoshkivske, Zalizne, Novhorodske, Pisky, Hnutove, and Lebedynske. The towns of Avdiyivka and Krasnohorivka also came under enemy fire.

The enemy opened fire from 122mm artillery systems and mortars to shell Ukrainian troops stationed near Krymske and Novotoshkivske.

"In total, five Ukrainian defenders were killed and seven more servicemen of the Joint Forces were wounded in the [recent] attacks," it said.

"The [Ukrainian] military units of the reserve and artillery systems are ready to repel enemy attacks and conduct military operations," the headquarters said.

According to the Ukrainian side, the situation remains under control.
