Certain stabilization reported on first day of "back to school" ceasefire
Russian-led forces mounted 18 attacks on Ukrainian troops in Donbas in the past day, while certain stabilization is reported on the first day of the so-called "back to school" ceasefire agreed upon recently in the Minsk Trilateral Contact Group.
"No casualties among the Ukrainian troops have been reported over the past day," the press center of Ukraine's Joint Forces Operation said in an update on Facebook as of 07:00 Kyiv time on August 30, 2018.
Russian occupation forces opened aimed fire from an 82mm mortar, weapons installed on infantry fighting vehicles, as well as grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and small arms against the defenders of the towns of Svitlodarsk, and the villages of Stanytsia Luhanska, Krymske, Novotoshkivske, Troyitske, Pivdenne, Novhorodske, Novomykhailivka, Pavlopil, Hnutove, Talakivka, Lebedynske, and Vodiane. In the Horlivka sector, the enemy employed a mortar near Novhorodske.
"Since Thursday midnight, Russian-led forces have already mounted one attack from a tripod-mounted man-portable antitank gun on the Ukrainian positions outside the village of Luhanske. In general, the intensity of shelling of the positions of the Joint Forces has significantly decreased, although the enemy does not fully adhere to the conditions of the 'back to school' ceasefire," the report says.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on the settlement of the situation in Donbas, with the participation of representatives of the Russian-occupied areas, also known as ORDLO, on August 22 confirmed at Minsk talks their commitment to a ceasefire, which was to start from midnight on August 29 due to a new school year.
