ATO Headquarters: Ukrainian soldier found alive in Donetsk airport
More than two weeks after Ukraine lost control of Donetsk airport to Russian-backed militants, one of the Ukrainian soldiers defending the new airport terminal has been pulled alive from under the rubble of the wrecked building.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, this was reported by the government’s Anti-Terrorist Operation Information Center spokesperson Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.
Lysenko gave no details about the rescue of the soldier.
"There is a report about the rescue of one Ukrainian soldier,” Lysenko said.
“As for the other Ukrainian soldiers who were under the rubble, it is impossible to continue rescue work. Due to shelling, it is impossible to approach the site with the heavy equipment required to clear blockages," Lysenko said.
Earlier, the Ukrainian military command said about 28 Ukrainian soldiers are still missing on the territory of the Donetsk airport.
