Ukrainian troops withdrawn from Debaltseve take up positions near Artemivsk
The withdrawal of the Ukrainian armed forces from Debaltseve has been completed and the military has taken up positions near Artemivsk, the government’s Anti-Terrorist Operation spokesman Anatoliy Stelmakh said on Thursday, Ukrainian newspaper Zerkalo Nedeli.
"The redeployment of the main forces of the Anti-Terrorist Operation from Debaltseve has been completed. Under the cover of artillery and mechanized units of the armed forces the personnel and equipment managed to come from the area of the tasks. In general, about 2,500 troops and 800 pieces of equipment after marching actions have taken up positions near Artemivsk," Stelmakh said.
He also reported the resumption of militant shelling on Ukrainian positions after a night of relative calm.
According to Stelmakh, Russian-backed militants have fired 39 times on the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces in the last day.
"The militants fired mortars on the village of Zolote and twice on the village of Popasna. Enemy activity was also recorded in the Donetsk area," he said.
"Clashes between Ukrainian troops and militants have been recorded near the village of Pisky, which was fired on with Grad multiple launch rocket systems four times and mortars and grenade launchers 10 times. The villages of Opytne, Avdiivka and Vodiane were also hit by militant artillery," Stelmakh said.
The military clashes with the enemy also took place near Mariupol, near the village of Shyrokyne.
"This village was fired on with mortars three times, as was the village of Berdianske," Stelmakh said.
