Stelmakh: Militants attack Ukrainian army twice in last day
Russian-backed militants attacked the Ukrainian armed forces twice last night, the government’s Anti-Terrorist Operation spokesman Anatoliy Stelmakh said at a briefing on Monday, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
According to Stelmakh, the previous night in the Donbas conflict zone was characterized by a significant decrease in militant attacks on the positions of Ukrainian forces.
"From 2000 February 22 until 0600 February 23, the militants fired twice on the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces. At about 2130 they fired with small arms on the village of Krasnohorivka and at 0200 they fired artillery on the village of Kamianka in area of the city of Donetsk," he said.
At the same time, Stelmakh said that the militants have not stopped their attempts to storm Ukrainian positions in the village of Shyrokyne near Mariupol.
"At midnight the militant units again launched an unsuccessful attack on our troops. The battle lasted for half an hour," he said.
According to Stelmakh, the Ukrainian armed forces are continuing to maintain their defenses along the demarcation line, without “succumbing to the provocations of the militants.”
