Militants fire on Ukrainian army 30 times in last day
Russian-backed militants have fired on the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces 30 times in the last 24 hours, the government’s Anti-Terrorist Operation spokesman Anatoliy Stelmakh said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
"Despite the Minsk peace agreements, Russian-backed militants continue to fire on the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces in Donetsk and Luhansk regions," he said.
According to Stelmakh, the militants violated the ceasefire 30 times in the last day.
"The militants were most active in the area of Donetsk. At 0750, 1245, and 1730 they fired 122-mm D-30 howitzers on Avdiivka. In addition, the militants fired tanks three times and mortars twice on this town," he said.
The militants have claimed that they have pulled back their heavy artillery from the front line, but the OSCE, which is charged with monitoring the pullback, says neither side is allowing it to move completely freely to carry out its mandate.
"In addition, Russian-backed militants also fired small arms and automatic grenade launchers on the villages of Pisky and Opytne," Stelmakh said.
"In the direction of Mariupol the militants fired small arms and mortars four times on the village of Shyrokyne."
"In general, the militants fired mortars and grenade launchers 19 times in the last day, artillery – three times, tanks – four times, and small arms – seven times," Stelmakh said.
