"The maintenance department of the Ukrainian armed forces is continuing to restore military equipment for our army,” Kushnir said.

“Over the last week, they have restored 248 units of equipment. In particular, they restored 31 units of armored vehicles and 217 cars," she said.

Ukraine’s army inherited large amounts of military equipment on the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, but years of underfunding, neglect and even theft have left much of it unusable or unavailable.

Other equipment, such as the T-72 main battle tank, is not used by the Ukrainian army but was put in storage. In addition, some of the country’s tanks were upgraded and sold to other countries.
