Ceasefire violations continue in east Ukraine (Video)
More attacks from Russia-backed militants on the positions of Ukrainian troops, mostly around the village of Shyrokino, came in the early hours of Monday, according to the Ukrainian military.
The village is located near the government-controlled strategic port city of Mariupol, which is believed to be the militants’ primary target, Ukraine Today reports.
Heavy weapons are reportedly still being used by pro-Russian forces despite a provision for their withdrawal from the contact line in the ceasefire agreement sealed in February.
The treaty has been continuously breached by separatists, while Russia remains consistent in denying any military of financial involvement in the conflict, despite much evidence to the contrary.
Meanwhile, the UN reports that some 1.2 million Ukrainians have been displaced from their homes throughout the conflict.
