The Counterintelligence Department at the SBU Security Service of Ukraine has busted a former member of the so-called "Donetsk People's Republic" ("DPR") who had been declared wanted six years ago.
The operatives established that the man, a Slaviansk resident, had volunteered to join the so-called "DPR's Slaviansk Police Brigade," according to the SBU's press center.
"He served as deputy commander of one of the terrorist-controlled platoons there. It is known that as part of the 'Taifun' gang, the man had been fighting against the Anti-Terrorist Operation forces in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. In particular, the culprit took an active part in hostilities near Shakhtarsk, Opytne, Spartak, and Novoazovsk in Donetsk region," reads the report.
In 2016, he left the "service" and set off to the Russian Federation to get a seasonal job.
The perpetrator was detained by the SBU in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine at the Melove checkpoint.
The investigation is underway as part of the criminal proceedings.
