Border guards repel five militant attacks in Donetsk region
Russian-backed militants continued to violate the ceasefire during the day and intensively fired on the positions of the Ukrainian military, the press service of the State Border Service of Ukraine reported on Wednesday.
"Illegal armed groups fired four times on the Maryinka checkpoint, which is manned by Ukrainian soldiers and border guards. Russian mercenaries fired machine guns, hand antitank grenade launchers and sniper rifles. The Ukrainian military fired back in response and forced the enemy to retreat. As a result of the armed confrontation, one Ukrainian soldier was injured," the report says.
In addition, the militants fired rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns on the Zolote checkpoint. The attack was repelled by the Ukrainian army. There were no casualties.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the most popular weapon among the Russian-backed militants is still the banned 120mm mortar. The militants fired these weapons at least 25 times along the demarcation line. In addition, they fired 122mm and 152mm artillery systems many times.
