Russian proxies attack Ukrainian troops 86 times
The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 86 times overnight, using banned artillery systems 12 times, mortars 27 times, and rocket-propelled grenade launchers and small arms 52 times, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
"Over the last day, the militants have significantly reduced the number of attacks on ATO forces. At the same time, there were still several cases of violations of the agreements with the use of large-caliber weapons," the press center said.
At the end of the day, the enemy was firing 120mm mortars on fortified positions of the Ukrainian armed forces in the town of Krasnohorivka and the village of Berezove in the area of the militant stronghold of Donetsk.
"At about 20:00 Kyiv time, the Russian-backed mercenaries started firing rocket-propelled grenades, heavy machine guns and small arms on the town of Maryinka. They also fired 122mm artillery systems and mortars twice on the town of Avdiyivka. In addition, from 22:00 Kyiv time, the mercenaries were firing 152mm artillery systems on ATO forces in the towns of Hirnyk and Krasnohorivka, and the village of Nevelske," the report reads.
In the area of the government-controlled port city of Mariupol the militants started firing 120mm mortars on the village of Starohnativka at 18:45 Kyiv time. And at 18:57 Kyiv time, they started firing reactive artillery systems there.
In the direction of Artemivsk, at about 19:30 Kyiv time, the Russian proxies started firing anti-tank missiles on the village of Luhanske. They also fired shells from the infantry fighting vehicles on ATO forces in the village of Krymske in Luhansk region.
"From midnight to 06:00 Kyiv time on August 18 the militants continued sporadic provocations, firing small arms, mainly in the direction of Donetsk," the press center said.
