ATO HQ reports about skirmish with militants in Luhansk region
The combined Russian-separatist forces continued provocative fire and attacks on the Ukrainian army positions from 18:00 local time on November 17, the government's Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) press officer Leonid Matiukhin said on Wednesday.
"At 22:00 Kyiv time, there was a skirmish between Ukrainian troops and a militant sabotage and reconnaissance group of about 20 people in the village of Orikhove-Donetske, Luhansk region. The enemy was repelled and forced to retreat," Matiukhin said.
During the period under review, the Russian-backed mercenaries were firing small arms at the Ukrainian positions in the villages of Novotoshkivske and Orikhove-Donetske in the Luhansk sector.
In Donetsk region, militants were using grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms to shell the villages of Opytne, Pisky and Troitske, as well as the towns of Maryinka and Avdiyivka.
News channel 112.ua has reported that the condition of seven out of the 16 wounded Ukrainian soldiers who were rushed to an Odesa-based military hospital from the ATO zone on Tuesday evening is serious.
"One of the wounded is in extremely critical condition with a serious breast wound. Some of the soldiers participated in fighting near Maryinka and Opytne. They have got predominantly gunshot and shrapnel wounds, according to civil volunteers," the channel reported.
