Russian proxies attack ATO troops 71 times in last day
The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 71 times in the past 24 hours, including 36 times in the Donetsk sector, 22 times in the Mariupol sector and 13 times in the Luhansk sector, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) reported on Monday.
The Russian-backed mercenaries stepped up their activities at dusk and continued using banned weapons – 82mm and 120mm mortars. At about 20:00 local time, the terrorists launched 17 missiles on the Ukrainian fortified positions near the town of Avdiyivka and the village of Zaitseve.
"The enemy fired rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns on the Ukrainian fortified positions near the village of Pisky, Opytne, Novhorodske, Troyitske and Mayorsk. Infantry fighting vehicles and snipers attacked our positions near Troyitske," the press center said.
In the Mariupol sector, the Russian-backed militants fired an 82mm mortar on the Ukrainian positions near the village of Talakivka, as well as rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns on fortified positions near the towns of Krasnohorivka and Maryinka. In the Luhansk sector, the enemy stepped up his activities and fired a mortar on our troops near the village of Orikhove.
"The Russian terrorists fired 120mm and 82m mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns on ATO forces near the villages of Mayorsk, Luhanske, Bohuslavske, Novozvanivka nad the towns of Krasnohorivka and Avdiyivka," the report says.
In addition, it is noted that the militants stopped shelling of our positions after midnight.
