"The situation in the east of Ukraine is a threat to the entire Western world, so countering information challenges with deeds rather than words is effective and produce results. We should jointly address information challenges," Poltorak said at a meeting with Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij.

Developments in Donbas signal to other countries how the situation can develop, he said.

"You can rely on our strong support. The world should realize this is a global threat rather than a conflict between Ukraine and Russia. If Ukraine defends its borders, it will ensure stability in the region," Czolij said.

UNIAN memo. After the annexation of Crimea by Russia in March 2014, Ukraine's east was seized by Russian-backed militants, and on April 15, 2014, the Ukrainian government had to launch its first formal military action against the militants who had seized government buildings in towns and cities across eastern Ukraine. Less than a month later, separatists in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk declare independence after unrecognized referendums.
