Kravchuk explains who should invest in Donbas

Head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) and first president of independent Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk has explained who should invest in Donbas.

In an interview to the Ukrainian-registered Apostrophe online media outlet, he said Ukraine must unite people in Donbas who had been divided economically, spiritually and socially.

According to Kravchuk, the state "which will come there" should invest money. Later, he clarified this is Ukraine.

"This is not only about the zone of uncontrolled territories, but about Donetsk and Luhansk regions as a whole," the official said.

• On July 30, Kravchuk became head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group for the peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas, having replaced Leonid Kuchma.
• On August 2, he named his priority steps in the peace talks.
• Kravchuk also says if the Minsk talks on Donbas in the TCG format come to a standstill, the Ukrainian side could initiate the signing of a new Budapest Memorandum.
