According to Jenson, the U.S. government is somewhat disappointed with the results of the Minsk talks.

"The White House has a certain frustration with the agreements reached during the Minsk talks, because it is a tactical victory for Vladimir Putin, and I agree," he said.

"In addition, Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to weaken the sanctions imposed against his country with certain agreements," Jenson said.

However, according to Jenson, the Russian leader should remember that he can be punished for non-compliance with the agreements.

"U.S. President Barack Obama will be watching whether the ceasefire takes place. But now he will refrain from [imposing more] sanctions," he said.

The expert also said he believes that talk in Washington on the supply of U.S. lethal weapons to Ukraine will be somewhat muted following the signing of the latest Minsk peace deal.
