The National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) of Latvia has accused Russia-24 TV channel of inciting hatred while broadcasting a certain news piece about the new Latvian president.

The news release was aired on May 30. It was dedicated to President of Latvia Egil Levits, Delfi reported.

In particular, a Russian TV host said "the newly elected President of Latvia Egils Levits is involved in discrimination against national minorities, including Russians."

Latvian law says any cable operator is responsible for the content distributed from third countries. The probed show was broadcast by 19 operators, which resulted in the NEPLP opening 19 administrative cases.

The regulator will continue monitoring broadcasters pursuing an unfriendly stance toward Latvia, the report says.
