A Ukraine-NATO Commission high-level session has opened in Bucharest on Friday.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, opening the session, NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer pointed out that the Ukraine-NATO Commission marked its tenth anniversary last year, and the today’s session is the fourth at the level of heads of states and governments.
According to him, this session is a perfect opportunity to discuss the state and perspectives of the Ukraine-NATO collaboration.
He recalled the yesterday’s decision of the Alliance Summit, saying that all NATO member countries support the Euro-Atlantic bids of Ukraine and Georgia, and that these countries will become NATO members one day.
The Secretary General noted that Ukraine makes a very important contribution into the world security, as it takes part in all operations of the Alliance.
He noted that Ukraine has already achieved a significant progress in reforming its security sector to comply with NATO standards.
In his turn, Victor Yushchenko congratulated Ukraine-NATO Commission participants.
He hailed the Thursday’s decision of the Alliance, which indicated the clear Euro-Atlantic perspectives of Ukraine.
