U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to sign an executive order to suspend immigration into the United States as part of the fight against the spread of coronavirus.

"In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!" he said on Twitter on April 21.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the U.S. is in the lead in terms of the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases. The number of coronavirus patients there is now almost 790,000 people.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the world was approaching 2.5 million people as of the morning of April 21.
