Greece officially requests a new loan from EU
Greece has submitted a formal request for financial assistance from the European Stability Mechanism (ESM).
"The ESM has received the Greek request," a spokesman for the ESM said on Wednesday, according to Reuters.
The Eurogroup of finance ministers is due to consider the application, which is formally addressed to its chairman Jeroen Dijsselbloem, in a conference call on Wednesday.
Earlier, media reported that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras asked for an interim loan of EUR 7 billion to be provided within 48 hours.
The Greek delegation did not submit new proposals at a meeting of EU finance ministers in Brussels.
The Greek government has to deliver detailed reform proposals in the next 48 hours.
New extraordinary EU summit on Greece will be held on 12 July.
