At today’s mass media briefing, Iryna Gerashchenko, Presidential Press Secretary, said Victor Yushchenko’s visit to Moscow to take part in an informal summit of CIS heads of state had been cancelled due to the current political situation in the country, according to the President’s press-office.

The President is going to send an official letter to his Russian colleague, Vladimir Putin, to reassure him Ukraine regards Russia as its partner and friend and is ready to develop bilateral relations. He will also invite Mr. Putin to visit Ukraine as soon as it has a new government.

Earlier the press-services of President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashivili, President of Armenia Robert Kocharian, and President of Turkmenistan Saparmurat Niyazov, also announced about cancelling their visits to Moscow. Thus, only 8 out of 12 CIS Heads of State will take part in the Moscow informal meeting.
