French President Nicolas Sarkozy said that he will propose closer ties with Ukraine during France`s presidency, which will begin on July 1, during a press conference on Wednesday, according to Warsaw Business Journal.

Sarkozy clarified his position on Ukraine`s ties with the EU during his one-day visit to Warsaw stating that the partnership would not promise Ukraine`s accession to the EU.

"In the present state of affairs (our) concern is not with accession but with a reinforced partnership (for Kyiv)," said Sarkozy. "As head of the European Council I will want to propose a partnership for Ukraine."
