Ukraine appreciates America's support - Yushchenko
President takes part in luncheon by the U.S. Atlantic Council
President Victor Yushchenko took part in a luncheon hosted by the Atlantic Council of the United States at the offices of Chadbourne & Parke LLP in New York, according to the President`s press-office.
Speaking at the event President said that Ukraine sees its European and Euro-Atlantic integration not only as a way to guarantee its protection, but also as a possibility to contribute to development of world security and stability.
He also repeated that for Ukraine there is no adequate alternative to integration to European and Euro-Atlantic structures and stressed assurance that the process is mutually beneficial.
Addressing those present President Yushchenko said that Ukraine appreciates America`s support of Ukraine in it`s ambition to join NATO and the EU.
Speaking about Ukrainian-Russian relations President said that he is a supporter of building friendly relations with that country because such relations correspond with national economic and political interests of our country. At the same time, he stressed, national priorities should be put first in the case, particularly when speaking about national security.
As to internal political situation in Ukraine Victor Yushchenko repeated that our country would be able to manage the challenge through democratic mechanisms.
