In Baku, Victor Yushchenko and Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan are presiding over talks expected to result in several bilateral agreements, according to the President’s press-office.

      Opening the talks, Mr. Yushchenko praised friendly relations between the two countries, characterizing our partnership as strategic.

      “Our traditions and history help us to be quite comfortable with building political, economic and humanitarian relations with Azerbaijan. […],” he said.

      In his turn, the Azeri President claimed relations between Ukraine and his country were developing successfully and benefited the two states. Mr. Aliyev said he hoped this visit would help enhance bilateral relations and documents they are going to sign reinforce our friendship.

      The Heads of State had met face to face before the negotiations.

      Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk, First Deputy Premier Andriy Klyuyev, Emergency Minister Viktor Baloha, First Deputy Energy Minister Vadym Chuprun, Transport Minister Mykola Rudkovsky, Naftogaz Chairman Volodymyr Sheludchenko and deputies Anatoly Kinakh and Eduard Zeynalov are present at the meeting.
