Poland`s prime minister failed to win support Monday for a quick euro adoption from the country`s main opposition party.

Donald Tusk wants Poland to switch to the euro in 2012. The switch, however, requires a constitutional change that can`t be passed without support from the main opposition party, Law and Justice.

Tusk met Monday with Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the head of the Euro-skeptic group, but failed to win its support for his 2012 goal.

"Chairman Kaczynski informed me that he and his party are interested in a later date, without specifying the date," Tusk told reporters after the meting. They "are not interested in supporting the government on this fast road."

At a later news conference, Kaczynski said his party opposed Tusk`s goal of changing the constitution to allow a quick switch from the Polish zloty to the euro. However, he added that he would support putting the matter to Poles in a referendum.
