"Russia's Alexander Prokopchuk, head of the Interpol NCB in Moscow, elected Vice President of Interpol," the agency reported on Twitter.

Earlier, Russian information agency RIA Novosti reported with reference to its sources that "a citizen of the Russian Federation was elected by 127 votes with only 10 voices 'against' and eight abstentions."

Prokopchuk served as chief of the Russian Interpol since 2011.
