Nearly 80 tons of cheese worth over $1 million has been spoiled by mice in the northern Italian city of Parma, a police spokesperson said on Monday, according to RIA Novosti.

Just over 2000 cheese rounds were seized by police from a warehouse belonging to a local cheese factory. The cheese was stored among mice excrement and the carcasses of rodents.

Part of the cheese is to be destroyed while some of it will be sent for tests to determine whether it is still edible. The warehouse is to be closed down.
