Robert Simmons, deputy NATO secretary general, claimed this during Kyiv-Brussels television bridge on Thursday, December 4.

“We should strengthen our presence in your country to move forward”, he said.

At the same time, R.Simmons stressed today it’s important to stop politicizing the MAP issue. According to him, they want to help Ukraine become a NATO member, and certain “difficult barriers” must be overcome to reach that goal. In the opinion of R.Simmons, the statute of Ukraine-NATO Commission must be improved, and the commission itself must be turned from a consultative body into a body that will be busy with solving concrete practical tasks.

At the same time, R.Simmons stressed that the Ukrainian government, or other political institutions, must bear responsibility for preparing the Ukrainian nation to entering the Alliance.
